Back in 2004 we saw the ‘post PATRIOT Act’ AML technology market developing in ways that were not particularly helpful to many banks. AML technology was not only expensive and difficult to deploy it was also difficult to administer and manage. We found that many banks were confounded in their effort to meet regulatory expectation and stay within budget. We also saw legions of ‘AML consultants’ preying upon banks with sky high day rates and lengthily projects that seemed never to end.
