AML RightSource February Employee Spotlight: Meet John Wintrow from our Financial Crimes Advisory practice! John, commonly regarded as JW by the Financial Crimes Advisory team, joined AML RightSource in 2016 and works in our Phoenix office.

Mr. Wintrow works in our Phoenix office with over 30 years experience across the defense, law enforcement, intelligence community, and consulting spaces. Leadership positions he has held include serving with the United States Secret Service as Counterintelligence Branch Chief; Head of Thread Intelligence & Investigations at Twitter, and earned a military retirement with service as a Special Agent with the Air Force Office of Special Investigations. John has built and deployed some of the most sensitive investigative and intelligence programs, and is a recognized expert in targeting terrorist activities and illicit actors. John leveraged his experience and started his own consulting company called "9Q Corporate Intelligence & Investigations."

John joined the firm in 2016 as manager of Financial Crimes Advisory Practice. He has brought insight to a vast array of financial crimes, assisting clients with the development and enhancement of institutional policies, procedures, and programs. John's client engagements include the tailored development of Financial Intelligence Unit framework, BSA/AML strategic methodologies, enterprise-wide risk assessments, transaction monitoring strategies (tuning and optimization), management reporting operational dashboards, corrective action plans, statistical analysis on lookbacks, and human capital frameworks.

Activities of interest include being an artist, painting, drawing, and sculpting. His passion for art was applied in a forensic capacity where he became internationally known for his abilities. Notably, he was featured on the Discovery Channel's New Detectives - episode "Drawing Conclusions" for his work on a cold case homicide.
